Overview

WiredUp uses refresh banners to notify users when important system changes occur that require their session to be updated. These banners appear at the top of your screen and ensure you're always working with the most current configuration settings, features, and permissions. When you click the Refresh button, the page reloads and applies the updates while maintaining your current working context—no work is lost.

What are Refresh Banners?

Refresh banners are non-dismissible notification banners that appear at the top of your WiredUp screen when system administrators make changes that affect your session. These banners use the same design and positioning as the deployment refresh banner and ensure all users are working with the most up-to-date system configuration.

Key characteristics:

  • Appear at the top of the screen across all modules and pages
  • Cannot be dismissed or cancelled
  • Include a prominent "Refresh" button to apply changes
  • Remain visible until you refresh your session
  • Multiple changes within a short timeframe are handled efficiently without creating multiple banners

When Do Refresh Banners Appear?

Refresh banners are triggered by five types of system changes:

1. Global or Site Settings Updates

  • Who sees it: All logged-in users
  • Banner message: "System settings have been updated. Please click Refresh to apply changes."

When an administrator updates Global Settings or Site Settings, every user currently logged into WiredUp will see this banner. These settings control system-wide configurations that affect how WiredUp operates.

2. Feature Updates

  • Who sees it: All logged-in users
  • Banner message: "System Features have been updated. Please click Refresh to apply changes."

When features are enabled, disabled, or modified, every user currently logged into WiredUp will see this banner. Feature updates can change what functionality is available in your WiredUp environment.

3. Role Permission Updates

  • Who sees it: Only users assigned to the affected roles
  • Banner message: "New role permissions have been updated for your account. Please click Refresh to apply changes."

When permissions for a specific role are modified, only users assigned to that role will see this banner. This ensures that users with updated permissions can access their new capabilities or have restricted access applied immediately.

4. Role Access Updates

  • Who sees it: Only users assigned to the affected roles
  • Banner message: "New role access has been updated for your account. Please click Refresh to apply changes."

When access rights for a specific role are modified, only users assigned to that role will see this banner.

5. User Access Updates

  • Who sees it: Only the specific user whose access was modified
  • Banner message: "New user access has been updated for your account. Please click Refresh to apply changes."

When access rights are modified for a specific user account, only that individual user will see this banner.

How to Respond to a Refresh Banner

When you see a refresh banner, simply click the "Refresh" button. Here's what happens:

  1. Step 1: Click the "Refresh" button on the banner
  2. Step 2: The page automatically reloads
    • Your current page is refreshed
    • New configuration settings, features, or permissions are applied to your session
    • You remain on the same page and in the same context you were working in
  3. Step 3: Continue working with updated settings
    • After the refresh, you'll be working with the most current system configuration
    • Any new features or permissions will be immediately available
    • Any restricted features will no longer be accessible
    • Your work and current location are preserved

Important Notes

Will I lose my work?

No. The refresh process maintains your user context and returns you to your current working state with the updated settings applied. You will remain on the same page you were working on.

Why can't I dismiss the banner?

Refresh banners are non-dismissible to prevent users from continuing to work with outdated settings. This ensures data integrity and prevents potential errors that could occur from using outdated configurations.

What if I don't refresh immediately?

While you can continue working, the banner will remain visible across all modules and pages until you refresh. It's recommended to refresh as soon as convenient to ensure you're working with the correct settings and permissions.

What if multiple settings are changed at once?

WiredUp handles multiple setting changes within a short timeframe efficiently without creating multiple banners. You'll only need to refresh once to apply all recent changes.

Do I need to log out and log back in?

No, clicking the Refresh button is sufficient. You don't need to log out or restart your browser.

Will the banner appear in different languages?

Yes, the banner messages are localized and will appear in your selected language.
